The story leading up to this wedding began, as it would turn out, at another wedding.
September 21, 2013: a Saturday with no plans other than to head to the countryside of Louisville, New York and celebrate the wedding of two dear friends, DJ and Saarah both ventured out for the day without any great personal expectations. It was a pleasant day, albeit brisk and slightly rainy toward the end, but neither person had any idea what they would really find at the wedding reception in the decorated barn — each other.
DJ had already established a number of cross-border friendships, between playing music, connections between churches, and a growing list of friends — including the wedding they were attending — who had gone across the border to find their spouses. Thus it was that DJ found himself sitting at the reception with a number of Canadians, and when Saarah came to chat with them it was the first introduction of two completely unwitting lovers-to-be. Some lighthearted teasing from their friends may have catalyzed the process, but before the end of the night DJ and Saarah had begun to chat and, as they say, the rest is history.
Over the next month, DJ and Saarah chatted online every day, as the incredible realization set in that, through all the paths their lives had taken, through good times and bad, God was leading and preparing them both for this. On October 20, 2013, the dating relationship officially began; and on March 8, 2014, DJ asked Saarah to marry him.
She said yes.
